KL NEEDS MORE CCTV CAMERAS

According MP Selangor Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar yesterday, the federal capital needs more than 300 CCTV (Close-Circuit Television) Cameras to effectively combat and prevent crime. While the Inspector-General of Police said, capital cities such as London had 40,000 CCTV Cameras, and Shanghai had 7,000 installed citywide.

He said, it is best if such acquisition of CCTV Cameras is done through the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry. Khalid was commenting on Kuala Lumpur police chief Senior Deputy Comm, call for more and better quality CCTV Cameras to be installed following the bomb blast at the Cherry Blossom Club in Bukit Bintang on Oct 9.

Police discovered that there were not enough CCTV Cameras and footage obtained from existing ones were of low quality, forcing investigators to rely on a photo fit of the suspect to solve the case, they hope more IP surveillance can deter such incidents from occuring in future, he added.
